Raggedy Ann Revival Effort

Rankin Bass Raggedy Ann

Raggedy Ann: an Original Musical Fairytale was a concept for a new special by Rankin/Bass Animated Entertainment. It is unknown if the special was planned to be 2D animated or stop-motion. The only information about the project comes from Rick Goldschmidt, the Rankin Bass historian, who has talked about the demo music created for the concept and sold a CD which combines these tracks alongside other demos.

"Our friend Brian Ianessa put together this track list for the RAGGEDY ANN, MOUSE ON THE MAYFLOWER and CRICKET ON THE HEARTH DEMO cd! As you can see my friend Gary Matheson rounded out the cd with some of the classics from the RANKIN/BASS CHRISTMAS CARD LP :)"

- Rick Goldschmidt

From what we have avaliable, there is only one clue as to when this demo was produced. The song "The First Toymaker to the King" would later be repurposed for Santa Claus is Comin' to Town in 1970, so the Raggedy Ann project predates 1970, and likely came around the early 1960's.

Track List

The album sold by Rick Goldschmidt contains demos for Raggedy Ann, along with Mouse on the Mayflower, Cricket on the Hearth, and a selection of songs from "the rare Rankin/Bass Red Christmas card lp. An LP with unedited tracks given to friends and family circa 1971" (Rick Goldschmidt, Etsy). These are the songs possibly from Raggedy Ann, assuming the tracks are in order.
